SOCIAL ACTIVITIES AND SPONSORSHIPS

1. Museum for Children

“E.J. Papadopoulos S.A.” is a permanent sponsor of the Children’s Museum, aiming at stimulating the children’s imagination and creativity through multiple activities in their own space, their own museum.

Sponsored by the company every year, the exhibition is held in one of the rooms of a neoclassic building in the area of Plaka where the museum is located. In a little, traditional kitchen, children knead and bake biscuits combining nutritious and healthy ingredients, dressed up in aprons and caps, all provided by the company.

According to experts, cooking is considered to be an important educational activity, because it exercises all senses, cultivates team spirit and rewards creativity.

Apart from the aforementioned «cooking» exhibition, “E. J. Papadopoulos S.A.” sponsors other museum’s activities as well. More specifically, in 1998 it took over the organization of a tribute to “people of the world”, with the participation of children from different civilizations living in Athens (each group set up an activity that represented its civilization). The company also covered the expenses for the celebration of the Child’s World Day 1999, including a children’s concert for the celebration of 100 years of Children’s Museums in the world. In this event, participated both, the Children’s and Adolescents’ Orchestra of the Greek National Radio and Television and the Typaldou Children’s Choir.

2. Ecological Consciousness

“E.J. Papadopoulos S.A.” has been a sponsor of the Attico Zoological Park (Ornithology Park) in Spata for 20 years. This park shelters the third in the world biggest collection of birds, animals of the Greek fauna, the African savannah, as well as an exhibition of reptiles, felines, …. and many beautiful mammals in their natural environment, full of green areas with different kinds of trees, plants, lakes etc.

The company supports the development of children’s and teenagers’ ecological consciousness from their early childhood. Attico Zoological Park is a recreation area but also serves as an area where children learn to respect the natural environment.



3. Playgrounds

“E. J. Papadopoulos S.A.” dedicated its 75th anniversary to its closest friend, the Greek child.

Modern playgrounds, designed by specialists to suit the children’s needs and safety, have sprung up in different Greek cities (Edessa, Ionia Thessaloniki, Kato Nevrokopi, Monemvasia, Nea Ionia in Magnesia, Oenophyta, Symi, Municipality of Tavros etc.) to serve as entertainment oases that will improve children’s quality of life, next to their houses.

Specialized researchers have been asked by the company to submit complete project proposals on playgrounds that offer children a stimulating and nice environment and are equipped with non toxic materials that ensure absolute safety and functionality. Of course, provisions have been made in order to ensure accessibility to disabled children, as it actually should be in a modern society which respects all of its members with their particularities.

4. Humanitarian work

a)“FLOGA” (FLAME)
(Association of Parents of Children with Neoplastic Disease)

“E.J. Papadopoulos S.A.”, in the memory of its founder Evangelos Papadopoulos, donated 150,000 € for the completion of the Home of the children of “FLOGA” in Goudi.

It is a building of 1,000 m2, inaugurated in 18/11/2002 by the President of the Hellenic Republic. It can offer hospitality to 24 families coming from the residencies, with children that undergo therapy in paediatric hospitals of Athens.

“Floga” has been fighting for the care of children with cancer for the last 20 years.

b) ELEPAP (Greek Society for the Protection and Rehabilitation of Handicapped Children)
“E .J. Papadopoulos S.A.” participated in the celebration event for children organized by ELEPAP, in Attico Zoological Park. The festival’s goal was to focus public attention on the «handicapped child», in order to approach it better and help understand its problems and difficulties.
The company, however, participates every year in similar events, supporting the work of ELEPAP through donations as well as through distribution of biscuits.

c) «SAVE THE CHILDREN» (Charity Association)
This Association deals with development programs and with various types of children’s problems, which are more complex than undernourishment and clothing.

“E.J. Papadopoulos S.A.” sponsored a program for the vaccination and the hygiene of children in the prefecture of Evrytania.

5. Athletic sponsorship

a) “Mistral” World Championship
For the first time, in 2001, the Sailing Club Korthiou – Androu, took over the organization of this championship.
“E. J. Papadopoulos S.A.” willingly accepted to financially co-support the Championship due to the following two reasons: a) the company believes that everyone has the obligation to support activities related to children and young people, especially those activities that promote physical exercise and health and b) it believes that everyone must support the “nurseries” of future Greek Olympic champions (Sailing Club Korthiou is one of them).

b) Table Tennis team- Municipality of Tavros (ping pong)
“E.J. Papadopoulos S.A.” sponsored the table tennis team of the Municipality of Tavros, which plays in the Greek Super League, for its participation in the Women’s European Cup. The competition area is the biggest in Greece today (16 tables) with more than 200 athletes.

c) Spartathlo
For many years, “E.J. Papadopoulos S.A.” provides biscuits for the athletes participating in Spartathlo (280 km long distance running).

d) Special Olympics
For many years, “E.J. Papadopoulos S.A.” provides biscuits for disabled children participating in the Special Olympics.

e) Young Men’s Christian Association
“E.J. Papadopoulos S.A.” sponsored all sport activities of the Young Men’s Christian Association of Thessaloniki for the season 2006-2007.

6. Academic programs

a) Scholarships
In the memory of its founder Evangelos Papadopoulos, “E.J. Papadopoulos S.A.” has established five annual scholarships granted to students of the Food Technology Department of the Aristoteleion University of Thessaloniki and the Agricultural University of Athens for their academic excellence.

It also participates in the scholarships’ program of the American Agricultural School of Thessaloniki, granting one scholarship.

b) Paediatrics congress
“E.J. Papadopoulos S.A.” stands every year by paediatricians at the Educational two-days Congress on Paediatrics. The company is an official sponsor of the Congress and participates with a stand as well as through the provision of financial support for the paediatricians’ attendance at the Congress.

c) Nutritionists - Dietitians
“E.J. Papadopoulos S.A.” participates in Nutritionists - Dietitians’ meetings within the framework of their continuous information.

7. Cultural sponsorship

“E.J. Papadopoulos S.A.” is very selective in choosing the cultural activities to sponsor.
The activities mentioned below are indicative:
1. The presentation of Nelly Parastasiadou’s painting exhibition related «War and Peace».
2. The support of the Nafplio Festival, which has been internationally recognized as an important cultural event, particularly, in a provincial town.
3. The sponsorship of the theatrical show «The Wizard of Oz» by the artistic society «Argo» of Mrs Aimilia Ipsilanti. It was addressed to primary school children, leading them to a magical world full of beauty and dreams.
4. Sponsorship of the Christmas celebration of the publishing house «Ellinika Grammata» (Greek Letters), including educational and cultural activities for children.
5. Sponsorship of the exhibition «Business and Tradition» by Kerkyra Publications, presenting various traditional Greek enterprises.
“E.J. Papadopoulos S.A.” has been sponsoring a number of other activities, each one of them addressed to its own target group, however, all of them directed towards a common objective: to send some kind of message or to promote artistic events by famous or new artists.

Publication “The History of Biscuits”.
“E.J. Papadopoulos S.A.” was the exclusive sponsor of the publication of “The History of Biscuits” of the Greek Literature and History Records (ELIA).

Apart from the interest in the book’s subject, which is closely related to its activity, the company took over this sponsorship, for it deeply appreciates the work done by the Greek Literature and History Records on saving, collecting, studying and publishing records and documents of the 19th and 20th century.

8. Celebrations in children's hospital

The company has organized children’s festivals in various children’s hospitals in Attica (Aghia Sofia, Aglaia Kyriakou and Pentelis) and in the town of Volos (Volos Orphanage, Paediatrics Clinic of Volos Hospital, Pylaion Day Nursery and Arionas Day Nursery).

These festivals were addressed to all the children in the hospital and offered an entertaining program, set out and performed by specialized kindergarden teachers.

The festivals lasted for more than an hour and included puppet show, singing, dancing, clown show etc.

In consultation with the Nursing Service of the hospitals and according to the children’s dietary needs, biscuits as well as toys and balloons were offered to the children.

The children enjoyed all events wholeheartedly, in a celebration full of happiness. The expression of gratitude by the managers of the Nursing Services confirmed the success of the company’s activities.
